Crystal Ross, LCSW

About Me

Crystal Ross is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker and a  Registered Play Therapist™ in Montana with over a decade of experience serving individuals and families of all ages. She is also certified in Parent Child Interaction Therapy. Crystal is guided by the belief that change occurs within the context of relationships as well as the environment as she focuses on attachment and  emphasizes a family approach. She understands that what may work for one member of the family may not be workable for the entire family. Crystal works to support parents and siblings through family therapy or consultation.

She also integrates Interpersonal Neurobiology into her practices as she believes that when we learn about our brains, we are more empowered to take on life and create change. Working from these perspectives of attachment and neurobiology, she utilizes play and mindfulness to help empower children to build greater connection with others, build problem solving skills, explore their internal world, learn about themselves and their feelings, navigate life's challenges, and process traumatic and stressful events.

Crystal believes in the importance of continuing education and continually attends trainings to remain fresh and up-to-date on her skills as well as the latest research. Some trainings she has completed include the Child Centered Play Therapy certificate through the Play Strong Institute, Level 1 Animal Assisted Play Therapy®   and Level 2 Animal Assisted Play Therapy®, and cognitive behavioral play therapy.

About Play Therapy

Play Therapy encompasses a variety of treatment methods that incorporate the therapeutic benefits of play. It is developmentally appropriate for ages 3-12. Play Therapy can be either child led (called nondirective), therapist led (called directive), or a combination of both. Play builds upon the normal process in which children communicate and learn. Play Therapy enables children to express their feelings, modify behavior, and develop problem solving skills. Play allows for safe psychological distance to work on problems and allows children to express their feelings and thoughts that is appropriate to their development. Play also builds positive relationship between the therapist and child which leads to trust and healing. It promotes cognitive development and can help your child develop insight about and resolution of the inner conflict they may be experiencing.

Crystal accepts Medicaid and most major private insurances.  She believe that finances should not be a barrier to therapy so she does work with clients based on their individual circumstances.  If this sounds like a good fit to you or if you have further questions about how play therapy or animal assisted interventions could benefit you and your child, Crystal can be reached by phone at 573-694-9805  or via email [email protected] to schedule a consult.
