My name is Kiki Zafiridou and I am a Clinical Social Worker licensed in the state of Montana. I work with adolescents, adults, and elderly who may be facing difficulties within themselves or in their relationships with others, or may be simply seeking out a journey of self-growth and change. I also work with children and adolescents who experience school related difficulties or anxiety due to learning/social/developmental issues or past trauma. My expertise in this area results from having worked in the schools for many years prior to my vocation as a therapist.
My style is based on my belief that, in order to best assist my clients in reaching their goals during the psychotherapeutic process I need to know when to listen attentively and compassionately, when to offer practical advice, when to help in developing new tools and ways to alleviate distress and when to bring attention to unconscious dynamics that may be stifling the progress towards the discovery of harmony within self and in relationships with others.
My approach is one that interweaves a variety of psychotherapeutic practices individually tailored to meet the needs, goals and personality styles of each one of my clients. I primarily incorporate psychodynamic, cognitive/behavioral, and experiential techniques in order to achieve the integration of mind/body/emotions. I am also trained in EMDR, a therapeutic tool that can be used to treat individuals of all ages. EMDR is designed to facilitate the reprocessing of trauma, intrusive disturbing thoughts and memories as well as treat a variety of other issues including anxiety, phobias, and PTSD (see emdr.com).
My ultimate goal is to help the people I work with achieve symptoms-relief, develop self-awareness and self-acceptance, experience a sense of empowerment, wholeness, and connection and develop the ability to have fulfilling lives and rewarding relationships.
